Almont Township is located in Lapeer County, Michigan. The Township’s eastern boundary forms a border with St. Clair County, while the southern boundary is shared with Macomb County. The Township of 6500 residents includes the Village of Almont and offers a peaceful country atmosphere and rich heritage. Almont is a convenient commute to Macomb County and Oakland County.
The Township is linked to the larger southeast Michigan region by several important transportation routes which cross in or near the Township. Chief among these are M-53 and I-69. M-53 is a State trunkline, providing a north-south route between Detroit to the south and Port Austin to the north. I-69 bisects M-53 just north of the Township in an east-west direction, linking Port Huron with Lansing, Grand Rapids and Indiana.
ARE YOU INFORMED
The following is information the Almont Township Board is extending to all voters in efforts to help make an educated decision on November 8th regarding ambulance service. Your township board agrees that this millage proposal is not in the best interest for your community.
In Almont Township we currently have a Medstar station on Van Dyke north of Dryden Rd. as our primary service. Lapeer EMS is our secondary service located in Imlay City. We also have our local Medical First Responders out of our Fire Hall on Tubspring Rd. Our community is fully covered by experienced, well trained technicians. These services come at no extra cost to you unless you are transported by an ambulance to a hospital.
The Lapeer County Commissioners have placed on the ballot a one (1) mill request for countywide ambulance service. Currently we have countywide ambulance service provided by various agencies. This millage request is only for Lapeer County EMS Authority. None of the monies will be dispersed to any of the other ambulance agencies servicing Lapeer County. The one (1) mill will generate approximately 2.7 million dollars per year for 4 years. A one (1) mill tax on a home with a taxable value of $150,000 would cost a homeowner an additional $150.00 per year on their tax bill.
You have full ambulance coverage now at NO COST unless transported!
If approved by the voters, all residents of Lapeer County will be paying a one (1) mill tax on their tax bills, even if their area is not covered primarily by Lapeer County EMS.
